Mya's, employs a diverse range of materials to create an array of works. Her practice is rooted in figurative art and draws inspiration from personal experiences, psychological research, mythology and both contemporary and classical influences. These elements combine to produce powerful and compelling pieces that resonate emotionally and intellectually.

Lisa Smith 

Lisa's practice has explored the power of art for wellbeing, having a long-standing interest in mental health, and also, the perception of the world around us and ways of seeing. The audience is invited to contemplate their own perceptions and thoughts.

Birgit Bentley-Stein

Birgit's work engages with sculpture and texture, wrapped up in emotions. Her work has an emotional and physical response within her environment.
For her the feelings come first  when making artworks where expression is what is most important to her. The importance is the audience has emotional response.

Melissa Carlton

Melissa’s work looks into personal identity and the pressure of societal ideals from a female perspective, reflecting on how external influences have shaped her sense of self. Using textiles, print and paint her practice seeks to highlight and challenge these narratives in pursuit of self-acceptance and self improvement.

Our Story

These emerging artists, currently in their second year of the FDA Foundation Degree in Art at Weymouth College, are pushing
the boundaries of contemporary fine art practice. This end-of-year exhibition represents a significant milestone in their artistic journey, showcasing a dynamic and joyful celebration of creative exploration. The work spans a diverse range of disciplines including mixed
media, sculpture, installation, film, photography, ceramics, and textiles-all presented within the unique and historic setting of the Locomotive Engine Shed on Portland.
